A lost call, or a lost relationship? A still image from the film More Far Than Near.

Sea waves, seltzer water, salsa, and a cuddly alien all come together (and apart) in this meditative and visually stunning reflection on loneliness and (mis)connection. In the words of filmmaker Seán Boylan, it’s “a picture about breathing… of a woman who encounters a panic attack in a hotel room, and a poet on a work trip who can’t seem to reach a depressed friend.” More Far Than Near challenges traditional movie storytelling structures, and I am beyond proud that I get to make my professional film debut in such a unique and thought-provoking project!

When in doubt, salsa. A still image from the film More Far Than Near.

Just like the film itself, the production process was also quite unique. While the film features an ensemble cast, there is very little on-screen interaction between characters and almost everyone shot their scenes as the solo performer with Seán handling all of the “behind-the-camera” work (i.e. direction, cinematography, sound, lighting, etc.). My scenes were shot over three days at the Tropicana Atlantic City, a hotel and casino right on the boardwalk - a mini homecoming for this ocean obsessed Jersey girl! With just the two of us working at our own pace, we really got to take our time building the little universe that Winter (my character) inhabits. They were a packed and immensely rewarding few days! Working with Seán felt like a true collaboration, and I will cherish the experience for the rest of my career.

Surely a house of cards will impress my crush. A still image from the film More Far Than Near.

As a parting gift and small enticement to watch the film, please enjoy this little “extra” below! Fun Fact: Camera was rolling in this moment! See the photo above for what this moment actually looks like in the film. In this scene, my character Winter is recording herself building a house of cards for a video she then sends as an oddly charming (?), flirty text message.
