Shakespeare on Stratford @ Stratford Road, Brooklyn
I was a featured performer in Shakespeare on Stratford, covered by NY1 and AM New York!
Shakespeare on Stratford, produced by Brave New World Repertory Theatre, was a free and open outdoor event held on April 28th on Stratford Road (Ditmas Park, Brooklyn) in honor of Shakespeare’s 455th Birthday in Stratford, England.
Actors attired in period-inspired garb stood on porches or along the sidewalks reciting rarely performed Shakespeare sonnets on loop for all who passed by with an eager ear. The community was invited to wander through and enjoy the sonnet performances for an hour before the company came together to sing Elizabethan madrigals and perform a court dance featuring Afro-Haitian choreography.
The sonnets were directed by BNW Rep’s Producing Artistic Director Claire Beckman, with Music Direction by Nancy Shankman and Choreography by Sheila Anozier. It was truly such a joyful event to be a part of, and a reminder of how magical interactive and audience-inclusive theater can be.
